Security Recorders are the heart of any surveillance system. Their basic function is recording and archiving video files – but they also do a lot more.
Types of Recorders
Network Video Recorders (NVRs)
A Network Video Recorder (NVR) is used with wired IP security cameras. They have built-in Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) ports for a simple single cable camera connection. 8,16, and 32 channel models are available.
Digital Video Recorders (DVRs)
A Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is designed for wired analog security cameras. They use siamese BNC cabling for a flexible and easy camera connection. DVR come in 8 and 16 channel options.
Recorder Features
Security recorders are engineered with cutting-edge technology to ensure maximum reliability and high quality performance. Here are a few things that they can do:
Record, Store, View
Security recorders are the heart and brain of the security system. They are engineered to be absolute powerhouses. With security recorders, you can record on all channels, view live video, playback an incident, and back up recorded footage on to a USB stick, and remotely control your system from your smartphone or tablet – all at the same time!
4K Recording
Security NVRs and DVRs are capable of recording 4K Ultra HD videos. 4K is the highest resolution currently available and offers the best chance to capture the specific details you need. The higher resolution also provides a higher quality digital zoom to help decipher details deep in the distance.
Network Time Protocol (NTP)
DVRs and NVRs are equipped with the NTP feature that seamlessly syncs your system time with an online time server. This feature also updates your DVR or NVR automatically for Daylight Savings Time. To use this feature, your DVR or NVR must have a constant Internet connection.
Real-Time 30FPS
NVRs and DVRs are capable of recording 30 frames-per-second (fps) in full 1080p HD resolution. The maximum frame rate for higher resolutions, such as 4K, become a little more complicated (please see the differences in frame rates below). A 30fps recording rate is considered “real-time.” This essentially ensures that you don’t miss any important moments. There will also be more still frames to choose from if needed for evidence.
Remote Viewing
Security NVRs and DVRs and their compatible mobile App, you have the option to view live or recorded video right on your phone or tablet (PC or Mac software is also available). With the App, you can manage all your cameras, switch them off, or even change a camera’s point of view (if available).
Instant Alerts
NVR or DVR is able to send instant email alerts for motion events. If connected to a mobile app, motion activated push notifications can be sent directly to your mobile phone. These alerts will help you stay in the know of any action occurring on your property, as well as providing invaluable forewarning of potential events.
System Settings
Recorders are where you access all system settings, including resolution, recording modes, motion detection zones, video orientation and more.
Motion Detection
Security recorders either detect motion themselves (NVRs / DVRs) or are told by the cameras that motion has been detected, making it easy to review past events.
Automatic Overwrite
Recorders use specially designed security grade hard drives or mircoSD cards and are engineered to automatically overwrite the oldest recordings with the newest.
Remote Viewing
By connecting Security Recorders to a mobile app, you can access your cameras from your smart device. Certain system settings can also be adjusted through the app.
